“Bridgeport Has a Dream” is a free, youth-led, annual cultural celebration of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., sponsored by Connect-Us. The 2026 show was attended by 500 people who came together to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King. Featuring a multi-racial cast of young performers, Bridgeport Has a Dream brings Dr. King’s message to life through song, rap, dance, poetry, and original letters written to Dr. King by participating youth. The program also included performances by local community partners, including Horizons at Sacred Heart University, K.E.Y.S., The Klein Dance Company, and Neighborhood Studios.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., spoke at The Klein in 1961 and 1964. Thousands of local residents came out for his talks and joined the Civil Rights Movement. The podium he used when he spoke at The Klein has been refurbished and the students who are reading letters to Dr. King will be standing at that same podium during the show, sharing their dreams for the world, their country, and their community.
